Pipeline Operator Public Awareness
Program Workshops
OPS co-sponsored with its state partners and the pipeline industry trade associations
two workshops in the fall of 2003.
The primary focus of the workshops was to introduce API Recommended Practice (RP) 1162, "Public
Awareness Programs for Pipeline Operators," to pipeline
operators and to introduce an operator self-assessment process being implemented by OPS.
At these workshops OPS and the pipeline industry representatives:
- Reviewed in some depth each of the RP 1162 program elements
- Provided some operator panel discussion and case studies
- Provided technical assistance on the evaluation of effectiveness element within RP 1162, and
- Conducted breakout sessions for transmission operators (liquid and gas) to gain a better understanding
of the relative maturity of their public awareness programs relative to the RP guidelines.
